With the holiday season said and done, we’ve braced ourselves for the winter weather to occur during the next three months. It already feels as if we have been in winter for quite some time, but there are plenty of weeks left before it begins to warm up and we spring our clocks forward. Unfortunately for many in New England, the change of seasons can cause depression called seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Seasonal affective disorder is common during the fall and winter months, and many attribute this depression to the lack of sunlight. Symptoms of SAD include many similar to depression including anxiety, hopelessness, lack of energy, difficulty sleeping, diminished appetite, weight loss, and more. If left untreated, SAD can be tough on a person’s health, especially as they remove themselves from their loved ones and are left alone more than before.
